Our Outreach Provision supports young people who, for whatever reason, aren’t presently able to attend a physical school building.
This may be because of their specific education needs, transition between other placements, medical needs, or Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). We offer short-term placements to support young people seeking the right permanent placement, as well as long-term school placements. Many of our Outreach students eventually join one of the other Southover Partnership schools when they’re ready to do so.
Our Outreach staff members are highly skilled and supporting young people in their homes or in a safe space in their local community, such as a library. We provide a range of academic and other activities and experiences to support young people, depending on their needs and interests.
Our curriculum starts with the young person and their needs. For example, staff members work thoughtfully to build secure attachments with their students and the families, taking their EHCP into careful consideration before planning a bespoke curriculum to meet their needs. The curriculum may consist of academic learning – for example, English, Maths, Science and a range of other subjects – and for most, results in formal qualifications such as Functional Skills, Entry Level and GCSE qualifications, amongst others.
Our curriculum also includes PSHE, the pursuit of your child’s interests and talents, and Preparation for Adulthood. We work carefully to support your child so that they can develop the skills and knowledge they need for successful lives. For example, we support them to explore relevant educational and careers opportunities, complete travel training, support with learning to cook, physical activities, and much more.
Outreach students can also access our therapeutic offer – for example, Speech and Language, Occupational therapy and Counselling support as needed.
We also work with other professionals to ensure students can make successful transitions for their next steps – eg in to a physical school, college, or work.
